FIX:

The ProInventory tool is designed to assist Progress Software Technical Support in more effectively and efficiently analyzing, diagnosing and correcting issues that may arise in configuring or operating Progress software products.

The ProInventory Tool can be found in the prodiag directory at the root of the Progress installation CD starting in service pack 2 for 9.1D and the FCS release of 9.1E. The most recent version of this tool is also available for download. For download locations, see the notes below.

Please note that there are two versions of the proinventory utility, the original version is 1.3. The newer version is 2.0. The proinventory directory contains the 1.3 proinventory files by default. If you want to use the newer 2.0 files you will need to go into the proinv20 folder within this directory. If you experience a problem with one version of the files, please try the other version prior to contacting Technical Support.

The proinventory software is packaged into a .tar or .zip file (depending on the platform). A readme.txt file is also included in the tar or zip file, which contains specific instructions for running the tool.

From the ProInventory directory select the zip file that corresponds to the desired Operating System. Use of this Tool is voluntary. The information logged by the Tool can alternatively be gathered by Progress Technical Support by telephone inquiry; however, collection of the same data in this manner can be a time consuming process, and can add significant time to final resolution of an issue. Progress has developed this Tool in an effort to provide the customer with more responsive and effective technical support.

The ProInventory Tool aids Progress Technical Support by polling the customer's system and providing information about the current computing environment and installation of Progress software. The Tool accomplishes this task by creating log files of the information listed in the readme file and emailing these files to Progress Software for analysis. The Tool may be run with an option to email these log files automatically, without operator intervention, or alternatively to require operator intervention prior to sending the files to Progress. The readme file describes the content of the log files and the information that will be collected from the customer's system.

Progress Technical Support Engineers also have access to the ProInventory tool in a location that is specific to their region. Each regional manager will know how to access this tool.

The tool will generate the following set of log files:

-Versions.log - OS version, Progress versions, Java versions. OCX and DLL versions for Windows only.
-Environment.log - environment variables. Progress registry settings for Windows only.
-SysInfo.log - OS-specific system information.
-ProCfgVer.log - information in progress.cfg, and install.ini if available.
-ProInstallVer.log - list of files installed by Progress.
