GOAL:

Is WebSpeed supported in HP MC/Service Guard environment ?

GOAL:

How to configure WebSpeed in MC/Service Guard for load balancing

FACT(s) (Environment):

HP-UX

FIX:

The MC/Service Guard is the HP's high availability product which allows that in the case of server failure the other member of the cluster takes over the tasks (applications) of the server that failed.
The MC/Service Guard is not supposed to do any load balancing, but the failover protection. The servers (nodes) of a cluster are connected in a loosely coupled manner, each maintaining its own separate processor(s), memory and operating system. According to HP, most applications will run on a cluster without any modification at all, therefore WebSpeed should should work equally well.
In the view of this, we do not have any specific recommendations on how to configure and administer the WebSpeed in such environment, however Progress Consulting service should be considered when deploying WebSpeed in this configuration.
Furthermore, there should be no reason not to use 'Progress NameServer Load Balancer' product which can be deployed in such HP cluster that would provide real load balancing for the WTS and which, by the way, can balance the
load across WebSpeed Transaction Servers deployed on different operating system platforms.
