GOAL:

probkup utility compatible on UNIX platforms

GOAL:

Which UNIX platforms can a backup be taken from and applied to.

CAUSE:

This solution specifies on which UNIX platform you may perform a
Progress Backup on a UNIX system and be able to restore that Database
on other UNIX system. This is tested for the Progress version below
but it is not supported. This can change in the future (* see below).
For Database compatibility see solution 13191.

FIX:

Progress version tested: 9.1C

Tested platforms:
SCO UnixWare 7.1.1
HP-UX 10.20/11
Compaq True64 4.0
Sun Solaris SPARC 5.7
Sun Solaris Intel 5.7
IBM AIX 4.3.3
Linux Intel (RH 7.2, Caldera 3.1, Suse 7.2)

Compatibility:
A) SCO System is not compatible with any of the other platforms.
B) AIX, Sun Solaris SPARC and HP-UX are compatible.
C) Sun Solaris Intel, Linux Intel and Compaq True64 are compatible.

Platform A) B) C) *ARE NOT* cross compatible.

You will get system error:
SYSTEM ERROR: CRC failure on backup header block (1058)

(*) A word from development: We tell customers that we do not promise
cross-platform compatibility. Promising cross-platform compatibility
restricts future options, so we have been slow to do this. We had a
platform independent restore project a couple of years ago. Several
bugs remain for offline backup, and online still has some significant
work to do, if we start up the project again.
