Kbase P118: Progress 9.0B unix client getting error (1416) when using ODBC DataServer
Autor   Progress Software Corporation - Progress
Acesso   Público
Publicação   1/31/2005
Status: Unverified

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.0B
Sun Solaris SPARC
HP-UX 11.0
IBM AIX

SYMPTOM(s):

This module does not support database type ODBC (1416)

No Dataserver license installed on UNIX client machine.

CAUSE:

ODBC DataServer product is not installed on unix client machine.

Please note that in Progress 9.0B, UNIX clients (Solaris, HP, AIX) connecting to an ODBC foriegn data source must have ODBC Dataserver installed on it. The ODBC Dataserver on UNIX contains an executable, $DLC/bin/odbrx. This executable relies on two Merant ODBC driver libraries, libodbc.xx and libodbcinst.xx (.so on solaris, .a on aix, .sl on hpux).

FIX:

You must install the ODBC DataServer production on the unix machine. At one time, Progress was providing the 9.0B odbrx executable and the two Merant ODBC libraries to customers based on a case by case incident. However, since Progress 9.0B is no longer available, you must contact your sales representative in order to obtain the current Progress commercial release.

Refer to following solution for current ODBC support on UNIX.
