FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows
Progress/OpenEdge Versions
OpenEdge Category: Installation

FIX:

Netsetup is a tool which allow us to share a networked installation for multiple clients.
To use Netsetup install the Full product on one Win32 file server and then share the disk where the installation was done.

To perform a Netsetup installation follow these instructions :
SHARED NETWORK INSTALLATION:

1 - Installing the client software onto a shared network drive

a) From a client machine, that doesn't have the same version of PROGRESS installed on it, map a network drive to the directory on the machine
where the PROGRESS client software will reside.
b) Temporarily remove any environment variables that define DLC or PROMSGS.
c) Put the CD in and install the client software, specifying the shared network drive as the destination path. Because this PC has installed the client software onto the shared network drive, it will not be necessary to perform "netsetup" on this PC.

2 - Performing "NETSETUP"

Follow these steps to perform a PROGRESS shared network installation for each client machine.

a) Map a network drive to the shared directory where the PROGRESS client software resides.
b) Run <drive>:\<source path>\netsetup\setup.exe where source path is the path where PROGRESS was installed.

To uninstall PROGRESS:

Use the uninstall icon.

To uninstall the PROGRESS shared network installation from a Windows NT Version 4.0 or Windows 95 client machine, use start menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs

To uninstall the PROGRESS shared network installation from a Windows NT Version 3.51 client machine:
From Program Manager, choose the Shared Network Installation program group and choose the unInstallShield icon.

note: When the usage count on a shared system file reaches 0, the Remove Shared File? dialog box appears. Not every program follows the Microsoft guidelines for incrementing usage count, so it may be prudent to allow the dll files to remain on the system.
