How to name program groups on Windows when installing multiple different versions
GOAL:
Why is it needed to change the program group name on Windows when installing multiple versions of Progress / OpenEdge
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x
FIX:
When installing Progress or OpenEdge to a Windows machine, the Progress installation utility will prompt the user for the installation group. This prompt is actually a request to determine which program folder (within the Programs->Start menu) to install the Progress icons.
If another Progress installation is already present on the system, a distinction needs to be made between the existing Progress program group and the new Progress program group. If there is no distinction between the two program group names, there is a possibility (assuming the two Progress program groups share the same name) that icons from the original Progress installation will be overwritten by icons from the newest Progress installation.
