GOAL:
Will upgrading from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 affect an existing Progress 9.1x installation?
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.1x
Windows
FIX:
The Progress Win32 mediaID 0146 is used for all Windows 32bit operating platforms (including Windows NT and Windows 2000). Therefore, this change is not considered as a platform upgrade. All Progress operations will behave the same. However, the database block size of Windows NT, 2000 & XP differs from the database block size of Windows 95, 98 & ME. The database block size for Windows NT, 2000 & XP is 1024 bytes. Whereas, the database block size for the Windows 95, 98 and ME environment is 512 bytes. Thus, if a database was built in a Windows 95, 98 or ME environment, it must be rebuilt via a dump/load operation in order to work properly within the Windows NT, 2000 & XP environment.
