CTRL-Y not recommended to end session unless using VTAs
PROBLEM:
Users should NEVER shut off their terminal while in a Progress Data
Base. Progress has no way of knowing what happened to the user and
will probably begin an abnormal shutdown. If the user was accessing
the database in a way that effects database integrity (index rebuild,
update, etc) this can cause severe data corruption.
SOLUTION:
There is no real solution to this problem. If the user must turn off
the terminal for some reason, and they are using Virtual Terminals
(AND have them ENABLED), they should at least do a CONTROL-Y
before powering off. This will give Progress a signal as to what
happened to the user, and a chance to back out of the transaction(s).
But this is ONLY applicable with Virtual Terminals that are ENABLED.
In all other cases, the use of control-y may crash the server. The
best solution is to log off correctly and completely.
