FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.1x
OpenEdge 10.x
All Supported Operating Systems
FIX:
Since Progress 9.x it is possible to add additional products to an existing Progress installation.
Simply re-run the installation program (setup.exe for Windows and proinst for UNIX) from the installation CD. If the previous install was done from a Progress ESD site download or from files copied from the Progress cd, then run the setup.exe/proinst from the extracted files in that directory as long as that directory is not a child of the current installation. If downloading a new install file from the ESD site, download to a temporary directory that is not a child of the current install directory or any of its subdirectories. Once the file is downloaded, extract the files and run the setup.exe/proinst from within that directory. Always be sure that the directory where you execute the setup.exe/proinst is not a directory under the current Progress install directory. The same holds true if copying the files from a cd to a temporary directory on disk. Never use the setup.exe/proinst located in the current installation directory to add new products, use the executable on the cd or from the newly created temporary directory. P135205, "Running setup.exe program fails requesting the shutdown of _ISDEL.EXE, img.dll, msg.dll, and util.dll".
Note:
As a precaution, prior to changing the current installation, copy the install directory\properties directory to a temporary location; if you make use of the Progress Explorer/AdminServer framework . These files are used within the AdminServer framework to hold configurations. Within the properties directory, the conmgr.properties file holds the configuration for your databases and the ubroker.properties file holds the various broker configurations, i.e. AppServer.
Progress on Windows will detect existing installations of the same version based on existing registry keys for the version.
On Windows if there is an existing installation of the same version, Progress will identify the location of the installation and only allow user to install new products into the current %DLC% directory.
Progress on UNIX must be directed to install to the directory which was originally chosen for the original installation of products of that version.
(In 10.1B and later, the UNIX installation will perform a quick scan of directories looking for Progress and will offer a choice of possible install paths. This scan is not exhaustive and may not list the version that is desired.)
On WINDOWS, the following steps should be performed after running setup.exe while logged in as the Local Administrator account:
1. When the installation process detects the existing version of Progress, a Warning dialog box appears, notifying you of the existing version's location:
The installation has detected that there exists a previous installation of PROGRESS in the following directory:
C:\Program Files\installation-path
The installation can only install additional products(s) to the above directory.
Would you like to continue?
2. Choose Yes to continue with the installation. The Welcome dialog box appears.
3. Choose Next to continue. The Serial & Control Numbers dialog box appears.
Enter the control numbers and choose Accept for each product you want to add to your current installation.
4. Choose Next to continue. If you are installing a WebSpeed product, the Before You Start dialog box appears.
Review the information and choose Next. The Choose Destination And Working Path Directories dialog box appears. The install program deactivates (grays out) the Choose Destination And Working Path Directories dialog box modifier func.tionality and adds the new Progress product licenses to the install directories automatically. Upon completion, the progress.cfg license control will be updated accordingly.
5. Accept the default directories and continue with the installation.
On UNIX, the following steps should be performed after running proinst while logged in as the root account:
1. When the Welcome dialog box appears, Press the RETURN key to continue.
The Serial & Control Numbers dialog box appears.
Enter only the control numbers for the products you are adding to the list of previously installed products.
2. When you are done, press CTRL-E. The Done Configuration Data Confirmation dialog box appears.
3. Press Y to continue (or press N to add more products). The Type Device and Destination dialog box appears.
4. Choose Select the Destination Pathname, and type the path of the initial/current installation.
5. Press RETURN. The Destination Pathname Exists dialog box appears:
Destination Pathname Exists
-Select an alternative destination patch
-Erase the current destination path
-Install the Progress products in the pre-existing destination path
6. Choose Install the Progress products in the pre-existing destination path and press RETURN to continue with the installation.
7. Choose Yes to continue with the installation.
The installation program adds the new Progress product licenses to the install directories directories automatically. Once the installation completes the progress.cfg will be updated with the new packages added..
