FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows NT 4.0
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows 2000
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows XP
SYMPTOM(s):
Getting error about logon failure
Getting error when trying to connect Web server (IIS) through Webspeed
The server was unable to logon the Windows NT account 'DRIS53672\IUSR_DRIS53672' due to the following error: Logon failure: user not allowed to log on to this computer
IUSR_DRIS53672 is the account used by Web anonymous users
The account used by anonymous users is a member of the guests group and has all the necessary permissions
When the account used for Web anonymous access is added to the administrator group, then it works o.k. without logon failure
CAUSE:
Non-administrator users can not logon (Your account is configured to prevent you from using this computer) which is basically what IIS is complaining about.
The problem here is that the registry the key: \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\CrashOnAuditFail
has an INVALID DWORD value
FIX:
1. Remove the key
2. Recreate it with a valid dword value of 1.
3. Reboot the machine
Local users can logon normally again and Web server account too.
