Connecting RS6000 to AS/400 server
920424-jms01
To connect the RS 6000 clients to a progress/400 server:
The AS/400 system must have at least 8 megabytes of main memory,
and be running V2R1 of OS/400.
For the AS/400 beta your system must have a token ring adapter
for communication with the RS/6000.
(the commercial version will support SDLC communications. But, if
SDLC is used, the AS/400 must have the appropriate communications
interface.)
TCP/IP must be installed on the AS/400, and the connection with
the rs/6000 for use by FTP must be established prior to the
start of the beta test.
In the commercial system, TCP/IP will not be required on the
AS/400, but will be recommended for developers.
RS/6000 CONFIGURATION:
SNA Services/6000 must be installed on the RS/6000. The operating
system and SNA services must be at revision level 2006, and may
not be at any other revision level. In addition, the following
APARS must be installed on the system: IX20671 and IX22146.
The AIX As/400 connection program/6000 msut be installed and functional
on the RS/6000, and the user must be able to log onto the AS/400
system assign the connection program in SNA mode.
Progress recommends that developers using the rs/6000 client have
the AS/400 Connection Program available, but this will not be a
commercial requirement.
During beta test, having this feature available allows us to verify
SNA operation, and assists in problem resolution.
