TCP/IP problems with Unisys 5000/80-90

No TCP/IP Support for UNISYS 5000/80-90
(Arix 800 Series Based Machines)
=========================================================

Unisys OEM's models from Arix which it repackages as its
5000/80-90 products. Consistant with our policy to use
the currently supported native socket libraries for the
machine we are porting on, we have changed the socket
libraries (and network interface board) required to run
Progress as Arix has changed its standard TCP/IP package.
For Version 5.2A the native package was produced by Exelan
(Yes the same company which produces the lan workplace for
dos, xenix or sco unix). Starting between 5.2F and 5.2J
Arix started shipping TCP/IP from Communications Machines
Corporation (CMC). Version 6.2D04 was compiled with the
CMC libraries . The problem is that Unisys still is
shipping the Excelan TCP/IP solution with their machines.

We have tried to use TLI as a way around the problem but
because of the dependance on TCP/IP in our V.3 TLI
implementation an attempt to connect using TLI can
actually crash the machine.

Unisys 5000/80-90 customers who wish to use the TCP/IP
features of our product have three options. 1) Install
the CMC networking (this may require using the Arix
operating system and will not make their UNISYS rep very
happy). 2) Switch to a platform where TCP/IP
communications is supported (this will make UNISYS even
less happy). or 3) Convince marketing to do a new port
(very expensive).
