Ultrix 4.0 and Progress shared memory problems
900910-rgw01
DEC has recently released a new version of their Ultrix operating
system for their Decstation workstations (workstations based on the
MIPS R3000 and R2000 risc microprocessors). This version of Ultrix has
changed from being based on Berkley UNIX to System V. This effects
Progress users in several ways. Because of the differences in how the
new version handles shared memory, our version 5.2D port does not work
properly in multiuser mode. Current users of version 5.2D should hold
off on upgrading from their current version of Ultrix. If after the v6
port (see next item) there is enough demand a new release for version
5 might be done.
The os change causes some changes in our version 6 plans. The first
and most obvious is that the nearly completed v6 port will have to be
restarted under the new os. The second is that version 6 will only be
available on Ultrix 4.0.
