Version 6 DOS Client and Single User functionality
910322-JAO01 The functionality of the DOS LAN product has changed in Version 6
from the way it was in Version 5. In Version 5, when a user
purchased DOS LAN, the ability to connect either to a server or to
start a session in a single user database was provided. In
Version 6, when a user purchases DOS Server and DOS-OS/2 Cleints,
the ability to connect to a server is all that is provided
by the client modules. To connect to both a server and a single
user database at the same time requires the purchase of DOS
Single User.
In order to have the same functionality that Version 5 offered
when purchasing V6 DOS Server and DOS-OS/2 Clients, the customer
must make a copy of the _progres.exe (or _pprogrs.exe) and
progress.cfg available for the client workstations. This can be
accomplished by copying these files to the users directory on the
network or to the local hard disk.
Those users who had been running DOS LAN and had purchased OS/2
under Version 5 will not have this option. The single user
_progres.exe and progress.cfg for OS/2 are not compatible with
DOS. If these sites upgrade to V6 OS/2 Server and V6 DOS-OS/2
Clients they will be able to start a Single User OS/2 session
or DOS client sessions. If they wish to run DOS single user
sessions, they will be required to purchase DOS Single User.
If the user was running an OS/2 Network (OS/2 Server and OS/2
clients) in V5 and upgrades to V6 OS/2 Server and DOS-OS/2
Clients, the same situation as under DOS applies.
