Memory requirements and limitations on BTOS hardware
901120-pmf01
INTRODUCTION:
=============
This is an introduction to BTOS machinery and memory. We run
on several different BTOS machines. A listing will follow.
It is most important to remember that in order to run version
5 or 6 of full PROGRESS on BTOS, it must be run on a machine
with more than 1 mb. In fact we need 1.2mb in order to run.
This means that realistically the BTOS machine should be a
2mb machine.
WHY YOU NEED TO DO THIS:
========================
If you are planning on running PROGRESS on a BTOS machine, and you
do not have a 2mb machine you will be limited to a Runtime
PROGRESS environment. The following is a list of the various
cpu's available:
Name Processor Memory
____ _________ ______
B21 8086 obsolete
B22 8086 obsolete
B26 80186 256k to 1MB
B27 80186 up to 768k
________________________________________________
The machines at the top of this list would
be limited to a Runtime environment. There is
not enough memory to run FULL PROGRESS.
The machines following have enough memory to
run in a FULL PROGRESS environment.
_________________________________________________
B28 80286 1MB to 4MB
B38 80386 1MB to 4MB
B39 80386 w/cache 4MB to 24MB
386i CT's B39 4MB to 24MB
PROCEDURAL APPROACH:
====================
Not Applicable.
ONLINE PROCEDURES OR UTILITIES:
===============================
You can run the BTOS command "partition status" to
determine the amount of memory present on your machine.
