How to correct FAST TRACK function key settings
900531-dma01
INTRODUCTION: Date Last Modified: 6/26/90
=============
This Product Services Technical Support Knowledgebase entry explains
how to change your PROTERMCAP file if the FAST TRACK functions OPTIONS
(<CTL><O>) and INSERT FIELD (<CTL> <O> i f) are not working for your
terminal.
WHY YOU NEED TO DO THIS:
========================
FAST TRACK may require additional key settings to those currently
provided in the PROTERMCAP file. If INSERT FIELD, CHOOSE, or ESC-O do
not seem to be working, it is likely that there are no entries in the
PROTERMCAP file for those functions.
PROCEDURAL APPROACH:
====================
Before modifying you PROGRESS PROTERMCAP file, make a copy of it to
your local directory. Edit only that copy and test your changes by
making the TERM variable or logical point to your local temporary copy.
Once you're satisfied with the editted version, copy it back to the
PROGRESS (DLC) directory to a file called protermcap (proterm.dat on
VMS).
To edit the PROTERMCAP, copy the lines after and including CHOICES
(ESC-O) to the portion of the PROTERMCAP entry your terminal uses (this
is based on the setting of your TERM variable or logical. For example,
if TERM = wyse60, then locate wyse60 in the protermcap file). These
lines from the vt220 entry are generic and can be appended to any
PROTERMCAP entry. They map only the keys needed for FAST TRACK. Once
you have copied them, be sure to add a backslash on the line just
previous to the first line you appended, since PROGRESS recognizes the
end of a PROTERMCAP entry as the line with no ending backslash. If you
forget to do this, PROGRESS will not, therefore recognize the lines
that you just appended to the PROTERMCAP entry.
If your terminal is a vt220 and your modified PROTERMCAP is still not
working correctly, then some keys may need redefinition. In your
PROTERMCAP file, redefine ESC-O to F11-O and CHOICES (ESC-O) to F11-C.
You must also redefine BREAK-LINE from F11 to some other function key
(e.g. F17, which is defined in PROTERMCAP, but is not used).
