GOAL:
What benefit does running a database with the No Crash Protection Startup Parmeter (-i) provide?
GOAL:
Is it possible to run a Progress database with No Integrity
FACT(s) (Environment):
References to Written Documenation:
Startup Command and Parameter Reference
FIX:
According the Startup Command and Parameter Reference Guide, running a database with the -i startup parameter causes fewer data and before-image blocks to be written to disk. Running with No Crash Protection makes I/O intesive operations run much faster.
The -i should not be used, however, unless a valid/complete backup exists. Should a database crash while running with the -i, the database will not be able to go through crash recovery. The only recourse when this happens is to go to backup.
