SYMPTOM(s):
Primary index <index> must be active to make the requested changes. (997)
Error 997 reported during the load of an incremental.df
none of the incremental.df changes were committed
CHANGE:
Applied an incremental.df to a database
CAUSE:
When changes are made to the dictionary that need the data to be scanned (like when you delete a field or add a new index), Progress uses the primary index for that table to scan the data. If the primary index is inactive, it cannot be referenced as inactive indexes are not maintained and are therefore 'invalid'.
FIX:
Investigate the changes that were made to identify the table and either use the index rebuild utility to reactivate the primary index for the table that was modified, or select another index as the primary index.
