FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.1D
Sun Solaris SPARC
SYMPTOM(s):
Performance problems with 9.1D on Sun Solaris 64-bit platforms.
9.1D 64-bit is slower than previous 32-bit releases on Sun Solaris SPARC
Performance decrease can be as much as 50%.
4GL code takes 50% longer to run.
CHANGE:
Upgraded to 9.1D
CAUSE:
Bug# 20021108-011
CAUSE:
Progress 9.1D was not compiled with the proper Sun compiler.
FIX:
Upgrade to 9.1D04. 9.1D04 is a full commercial re-release. It will require new media and control codes. 9.1D04 was recompiled using Sun Forte/Update 2 for the Sun Solaris SPARC 8 platform. No coding changes were necessary.
Before upgrading, make sure the following Solaris patches are applied: 108434-09 (32-bit C++ RTL) and 108435-09 (64-bit C++ RTL).
Subsequent Service Packs for 64-bit release will require that 9.1D04 or higher be installed.
