Performance Degradation After Upgrading to Windows XP
CAUSE:
Windows XP is set up with GUI Visual Effects that can affect
the performance of the machine.
FIX:
In order to gain performance, set the environment back to Classic windows mode and set the Visual Effects to Best performance instead of the default setting.
This will result in Windows XP Visual Effects being set to the minimum configuration which uses fewer resources.
To Change to Windows Classic Mode:

1) Right click on the desktop.
2) Select properties.
3) Under Display Properties\Themes, change the Theme to Windows
Classic and select OK.
To Change the Visual Effects, follow these steps:

1) Right click on My Computer.
2) Select Properties > Advanced\Performance Settings.
3) Under Visual Effects, select the ·Adjust for Best Performance·
