How to convert a Windows .bmp to X-Windows .xbm or .xpm

Progress does not supply tools to convert bitmaps from a Windows .BMP
format to X-Windows environments .xbm or .xpm

However, there are many tools out there, that can make this
convertion. Since this is a frequent question asked, we will give the
name of one supplier that fulfills these specification. Remember,
this is just an example.

This is taken from a demo version of Image Alchemy.

This is a demo version of Image Alchemy. It is limited to images
that are 640x480 or smaller.

To receive the latest, fully functional version, send $79.95 plus
$4.00 shipping and handling (plus sales tax in California) to:

Handmade Software, Inc.
15951 Los Gatos Blvd., Suite 17
Los Gatos, CA 95032

+1 408 358-2694 fax
+1 408 358-1292

For more information consult the file alchemy.doc

Now, in Alchemy, to convert a .BMP file to a .xbm, type
ALCHEMY <name>.BMP --b
and to convert to a .xpm, type
ALCHEMY <name>.BMP --x
Remember, the .xbm & .xpm are ASCII files. Thus, when transferring
these files to a unix platform (by ftp), it has to be done by ASCII
transfer, and not by a binary transfer.

Remember not to use any extentions in the 4GL when loading images.
