Instructions for RS/6000 to AS/400 connection in Bedford

920528-elp01Subject: RS/6000 to AS/400 connections

The following are guidelines for connecting to the AS/400 from
the RS/6000 (ibmrios). There is additional, more detailed,
documentation available from Tim Tiches in operations.

RS/6000 to AS/400 Connection Guidelines
_______________________________________
Requirements:

- User account on the RS/6000 (hostname=ibmrios).
- User profile and password on the AS/400.
- A file called .5250keys must exist in the users home
directory on ibmrios (See below for more information).
- SNA services must be running on the ibmrios. This is
usually started automatically by the system.

Keys file notes:

The .5250keys file is used for terminal emulation. The
file that you use will depend upon the terminal (and keyboard)
that you are using at the time you connect to the AS/400.
This file defines which keys will emulate IBM 5250 terminal
keys on the AS/400.

In the directory /usr/lpp/eux/samples on the ibmrios, there
are three sample keys files. There is one for DEC terminals,
one for IBM terminals, and one for Wyse terminals. You
should copy one of these files to your home directory and
rename it .5250keys. At this point, If your keys need to
be redefined, you can run the program cf5250 from your home
directory. A description of how to use this program, as
well as other RS/6000 to AS/4000 functions, is available
from Tim Tiches.

Attachment Procedure:
1. login to the ibmrios (i.e. rlogin ibmrios).
2. Make sure you have the correct .5250keys file for
the terminal that you are using.
3. Type as400. This is a script that makes the attachment
and connection to the AS/400.
4. After approximately 20 seconds you will be presented
with the AS/400 sign-on screen.
5. Login to the AS/400 as you would normally do.
6. Ctrl-d will exit back to the ibmrios.

** If you have any questions see Tim Tiches in Operations (x4439).
