GOAL:

How to upgrade Progress to a new minor release level on Windows

FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000

FIX:

To upgrade to a new minor release level, such as 9.1C to 9.1D, on Windows:

1) Stop any Progress services such as the AdminServer and ProControl.

2) Make sure all active databases have been shut down.

3) Truncate the bi file for all databases by issuing this command:

proutil <dbname> -C truncate bi

This ensures there are no in-flight transactions during the upgrade.

4) Make backup copies of customized configurations files into a location outside of the installed directories (examples: startup.pf, progress.ini, ubroker.properties, conmgr.properties.)

5) Uninstall the old version, 9.1C in this example, using the Uninstall menu option in the Progress program group.

6) Reboot the machine.

7) Install the new version, 9.1D in this case, and start the database(s). No recompile is necessary.
