Solution ID: P4482
FACT(s) (Environment):
SCO OpenServer 5.0.4
SCO OpenServer 5.0.6
SCO OpenServer 5.0.5
Progress 9.1x
SYMPTOM(s):
Error (1083) when starting up the database using a big -B
SYSTEM ERROR: Number of private slots in segment table exhausted (1083)
CAUSE:
The default value of SHMMAX on SCO OpenServer is 512 K. Starting a database with a large buffer pool (-B) will require more Shared Memory Segments/Identifiers (SHMSEG) per process than the kernel or Progress will allow.
FIX:
Increase the SHMMAX kernel parameter and relink the kernel. This will require fewer shared memory segments/identifiers per database. A 32-bit Progress 9.1x database broker can address up to 21 shared memory segments with a maximum segment size of 128 megs.
