5.3 Tower operating system requires kernal change
900605-hjb01In a previous technical notebook entry I stated that we were
investigating error (283) STGET OUT OF STORAGE on the Tower 5.3
operating system. The error arises when a kernal parameter has
not been set high enough. Be sure that anyone running under NCR
o/s 5.3 or the Unisys equivalent has the kernal parameters MAXUMEM
and MAXMEM set to 4096. Otherwise they will receive the error 283
performing simple tasks like dumping and loading files and FOR EACH
filename. DISPLAY filename.
