GOAL:

What is the difference using the Progress PROUTIL utility and the command line utility PCCmd.

FIX:

The PROUTIL and PCCmd status each report different status.

PCCmd status reports if the database is started up by ProControl. It returns 0 if ProControl is running and 1 if it is not.

If the database is started by command line, the status is always 1.

PROUTIL busy reports the database status no matter how the database is started (0 if it's closed and 6 when open).

When stopping the database through either ProControl or the PCCmd command, (proshut -G 0 -by) is executed. This is considered a normal shutdown process.

If shutting down with the PROSHUT utility, there are more options (such as emergency shut down).
