GOAL:

Identify the ODBC DataServer versions that are supported on Unix platforms

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.0B
Progress 9.1A
Progress 9.1B

FIX:

Progress 9.0B

Progress 9.0B requires all unix clients connecting to an ODBC Dataserver to have the ODBC Dataserver installed on the unix client.  The ODBC Dataserver on unix contains an executable, $DLC/bin/odbrx, that can connect to the ODBC dataserver.  This executable relies on two Merant ODBC driver libraries, libodbc.xx and libodbcinst.xx (.so on solaris, .a on aix, .sl on hpux).  Remember to set PROEXE to point to  $DLC/bin/odbrx.  There is no capability to probuild a remote odbc dataserver client on unix.

Progress 9.1A
Progress V9.1A does not support ODBC Dataserver on unix.  This product has been discontinued.  Progress V9.1A commercial version does not support an unix client connecting to an ODBC Dataserver on NT.   However, a patch to V9.1A05 for some UNIX platforms will allow UNIX clients to connect to an ODBC Dataserver on NT.   This V9.1A patch will also contain server functionality.  However the server functionality is not supported on unix.  There is no exception to this.  Only ODBC Dataserver client functionality will be supported on unix platforms

The patch is available for IBM AIX, HPUX 11 and Solaris only. The other platforms didn't have ODBC suppport and we are not adding any other platform for V9.1A

The remote odbc client executable was introduced on the following
patches:
HPUX 11 - 9.1A13
Sun Solaris - 9.1A13
IBM AIX - 9.1A16

The executable name is odbrx.

Progress 9.1B

Progress 9.1B supports unix clients connecting to an ODBC Dataserver on NT.  This capability will be built in to the progress client (_progres) and will not require a patch. For 9.1B, all Unix platforms will have the capability.
