SUMMARY:
Progress Version 9.x will, by default, use 8MB as the shared memory segment size on Compaq Tru64 UNIX servers.
EXPLANATION:
This is a change in behavior compared to Progress Version 8 where Progress would use the kernel setting as defined in "/etc/sysconfigtab" (shm_max). This can be a problem when large values are used for the -B (database buffer) parameter. Progress Version 9 would use more segments with a relatively small shared memory segment size.
SOLUTION:
When using the -Mpte Progress server startup parameter on Compaq Tru64 UNIX servers, Progress Version 9.x will override the default 8MB shared memory segment size it would normally use. The shared memory segment size we use in this case is approximately shm_max - 8MB.
