Kbase 21895: Fathom: Error Message Is Truncated -- Why?

SUMMARY:

This Knowledge Base Solution documents the reasons why an error message might appear to be truncated or that you have a strange error message appearing when it shouldn't.

EXPLANATION:

If a log file shows a truncated error message, the culprit is more than likely the result of:

A) The PROMSGS environment variable pointing to a version of
the promsgs file which is inconsistent with the version of
Fathom/Progress you are running.

B) The promsgs file you are using is corrupted or the wrong version.

Having an incorrect promsgs file can even show these strange truncated error messages within selection lists and other places that are supposed to contain data.

SOLUTION:

Confirm that your PROMSGS environment variable is pointing to the correct promsgs file.

If you still find error messages being truncated, then update your promsgs file to the current version.

The problem above is less likely to occur with 9.1D onward as it will with 9.1C.

For 9.1D onward you should find the appropriate promsgs file within $DLC/prolang/xxx/ directory, where "xxx" denotes the language you require.

For 9.1C you can go to the Progress website and download the appropriate file from the following page:
