SUMMARY:
This Knowledge Base Solution provides a possible explanation of why, after upgrading to Windows XP, the Progress environment might experience performance degradation.
EXPLANATION:
By default, Windows XP is set up with GUI Visual Effects that affect the performance of the machine. In order to gain performance, you would have to set the environment back to Classic windows mode and set the Visual Effects to Best performance instead of the default setting.
SOLUTION:
-- To Change to Windows Classic Mode:
1) Right click on the desktop.
2) Select properties.
3) Under Display Properties\Themes, change the Theme to Windows
Classic and select OK.
-- To Change the Visual Effects, follow these steps:
1) Right click on My Computer.
2) Select Properties > Advanced\Performance Settings.
3) Under Visual Effects, select the ?Adjust for Best Performance?
radio Button.
This will adjust the new Windows XP Visual Effects to the minimum, which in turn will result in a noticeable performance gain.
