SUMMARY:

This Knowledge Base Solution explains why you might receive the following error when doing a manual uninstall of Progress 9.x on Windows NT or Windows 2000:

Cannot delete aia.zip: There has been a sharing violation.
The source or destination file may be in use.

The manual uninstall will be required when the Progress Uninstall utility fails to remove Progress successfully from the machine.

EXPLANATION:

The error is caused by having the JRun service running in the background. To successfully delete the Progress installation directory you will need to turn off the JRun service.

SOLUTION:

To turn the JRun service off:

1) go to: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

You will have two services listed:

JRun Admin Server.
JRun Default Server.

2) Turn both services off. This will allow you to delete the
Progress installation directory.
