Kbase 21811: Error 5192 After TCP Reinstallation
Autor   Progress Software Corporation - Progress

Publicação   2/19/2002
SUMMARY:

If the TCP software has been reinstalled after the Progress installation, you might encounter error 5192:

Unable to find server <name> with protocol TCP in file SERVICES
or SERVICES file not found in expected location. (5192)

EXPLANATION:

During a reinstallation of TCP, the services file might get overwritten. Regardless of whether you are using the -S parameter (servicename) or not, Progress will read the services file during startup.

Progress makes a getbyhostname call which, among other things, will look in the services file for entries that will validate the TCP stack. Progress requires networking, and during startup looks in the Services, Protocol and Host files to validate this.

SOLUTION:

If TCP needs to be reinstalled on the system, make a backup of the existing services file so it can be restored after TCP is installed.
