SUMMARY:
This Solution address an installation error on auto-mounted CDROM UNIX system:
"Archive /mnt/cdrom/pmame is missing or could not be read"
This install error was documented on an IBM eServer x342, 150 GB
Raid 5 disk server, and dual processors with over 1 GB of ram, running
Linux Red Hat 7.2.
EXPLANATION:
The error message indicates a problem with access to the CDROM drive. It could be a problem with the CDROM driver, reading from the CDROM itself, or the CD file format is not being seen correctly (pmame is seen as PMAME), and the install script fails with the above error or similar.
In the case of the error above, you might still be able to move through all of the installation menus. The error appears after completing all the selections and starting the actual installation process.
SOLUTION:
If the system is set to auto-mount the CD, try disabling the auto-mount and mounting the CD manually as outlined in the Progress Installation Guide for UNIX.
Try circumventing the CDROM by copying the contents of the CD to a temporary directory and installing from there.
cp -r /mnt/cdrom /tmp/progress_install
It is possible the problem is the CDROM itself, the installation of it, or the drivers associated with it.
