Kbase 21766: User Remains Connected After PROMON, PROSHUT Disconnect User

SUMMARY:

In Progress 8.3x, a user can sometimes remain connected after you've issued a disconnect using PROMON or PROSHUT.

EXPLANATION:

If you start up a database using PROSERVE with the -by parameter and the database VSTs are also enabled, you might find that after doing a PROMON or PROSHUT and selecting the option "Disconnect user", that this user still remains connected to the database. He still can lock any resource, however he is no longer visible in the user list so there is no way to issue the disconnect again.

This behavior has been logged as bug number 20020129-007.

SOLUTION:

To avoid the problem, remove -by from the PROSERVE startup parameters. The -by parameter should only be used to shutdown the database using the PROSHUT command.
