SUMMARY:
This Solution applies to the Version 9.1C Progress/400 DataServer.
On fields that are added through an incremental file, the initial values are set to unknown (?) even though the definitions have a default value defined different than ?.
EXPLANATION:
There is a new setting in PROSET for the 9.1C DataServer that solves this issue. The setting, which has a default value of N, is BUILD-DDS-DFT-KEYWORD.
SOLUTION:
The INITIAL value that is set in the .df is for the initial value of the field upon the creation of a record. In order for the INITIAL value to be set for added fields with existing records, the PROSET setting needs to be set to Y.
PROSET is a settings file provided by Progress/400 to regulate DataServer behavior. This file is located in the Progress library as supplied in the product media. You can change the settings using various OS/400 utilities, including the Data File Utility (DFU).
