GOAL:
Support and certification of Progress 8.3x against Oracle 8.1.7
GOAL:
Do we support Oracle 8.1.7 with Progress 8.3x
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 8.3x
Oracle 8.1.7
FIX:
Progress version 8.3B, per the Product Availability Guide, is the first 8.3 release to be certified against ORACLE 8.1. Many customers look at the Product Availability Guide and assume that all ORACLE minor releases within 8.1 (such as 8.1.3, 8.1.5, 8.1.6, 8.1.7) are supported and have been certified for all Progress 8.3 versions. This assumption is incorrect.
The only Progress 8.3x version that has been certified and tested against ORACLE 8.1.7, is Progress 8.3E. All other versions of Progress are not. However, this does not mean that basic connection, schema pull/push, along with simple 4GL statements will not work.
Currently, Progress does support/certify all Progress versions prior to 8.3E, against all ORACLE versions up to ORACLE 8.1.6
There is one exception. On platform Silicon Graphics (OS Irix 6.5), last supported ORACLE version is 8.0.6.1. Latest ORACLE versions are not supported due to ABI objects format incompatibility between ORACLE and Progress. Since SGI is no more supported platform, there are no plans to fix this incompatibily.
