SUMMARY:
The purpose of this kbase is to assist users with getting their Progress Explorer to work properly on Windows NT running version 1.2 of MMC.
EXPLANATION:
During the installation process, Progress detects the Operating System. If it detects Windows NT and MMC 1.1/1.2 is not installed, it automatically installs Progress Explorer and MMC 1.1. If MMC 1.2 or Windows 2000 is detected, the file proexp.msc will be changed to a 1.2 version of the file.
A problem may arise when Progress installs the default 1.1 on the machine, and later MMC is updated to 1.2. This may happen if the user installs a Microsoft product that uses 1.2, such as SQL 2000, or MMC 1.2 itself.
Some of the behavior that may typify this situation is the inability to add any Progress Servers in the Explorer tool. The customer will be confronted with only a Progress Explorer Gear Icon. When they right-mouse click to add a server, the option will not be available.
SOLUTION:
Check what version of MMC is actually being used on the machine. To accomplish this, go to HELP and ABOUT in Progress Explorer. If it reads MMC 1.2, rename proexp.msc to proexp11.msc and then rename proexp12.msc to proexp.msc. Restart Progress Explorer.
