Status: Unverified
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.x
SYMPTOM(s):
Error: Could not recognize argument: <string>. (301)
The <string> portion of error (301) can be any of the following:
-numsep
-numdec
-d
Error: The <ARG> parameter has too many digits. (5049)
Attepmting a proutil dbname -C conv89.
CAUSE:
The values, -numsep, -numdec, and -d, are parameters listed in the Progress startup.pf file and they are based on the native country setting of the host system. For U.S. English the -numsep is defined as ASCII 44 or the comma character, the -numdec is defined as ASCII 46 or the period character, and the -d is set to mdy for Month Day Year. For other countries the values set in these parameters should be according to the appropriate country's language settings.
If for some reason Progress did not install properly on the host system or the host system was set up for one native language and Progress is not installed for that same native language, the problem could ensue.
FIX:
Compare the startup.pf against a known good installation, and then edit the startup.pf to match that good installation.
