FACT(s) (Environment):
Oracle DataServer

SYMPTOM(s):
ORASRV environment variable is pointing to Progress 8.x server executable.
** Could not recognize argument: <string>. (301)
When attempting to connect to Oracle database, error 301 is displayed on the screen but not written to the DataServer log file.
CAUSE:
-umsep is a V9 startup parameter, a Progress 8 client can not recognize it.
FIX:
Set ORASRV environment variable to Progress 9.x ORASRV
