Determining PROGRESS port for a Unisys platform machine
What operating system is the customer's UNISYS machine?
Unisys Corporation makes and markets a wide variety of machines.
Their product line includes several Original Equipment Manufacturer
(OEM) Unix machines. Consequently, knowing that your customer has
a piece of equipment purchased from Unisys Corporation is not
sufficient to understand what PROGRESS port is required and
compatible. See the "Machine Name for Porting" TechMIS query or
the MarketWatch update for "Machine Name by Machine Code" for
machines sold by Unisys and their OEM equivalent products.
Unisys also sells a line of DOS-based PC products.
From the customer's serial number, you can derive the Serial Number
media code (SN) and machine code; this will determine which product
they need to be running.
Note that the CTOS/BTOS product line is only a minor
portion of the list of equipment available from Unisys Corporation.
In particular, "CT", which is media code 25, and "UNISYS UNIX 386/486",
which is media code 33, are Unisys' proprietary UNIX products, not
CTOS platforms.
In addition, Unisys resells under private label the following
operating systems:
Sequent PTX, Sequent Dynix, NCR 486, NCR Tower, Unix 386/486, Arix
825, SCO Unix 386, Sun-4, RT (RIOS), and CCI 'flavors' of Unix
boxes.
