1124 errors usually indicate corruption in the database

900308-rgw011124 errors generally indicate corruption in the database. The best
line of attack on these problems is to look for possible causes of
corruption. Does fsck or chkdsk run through ok? Is there anything
unusual in the hardware error log? Are they using a disk controller
which has disk caching (we only work with write through cache)?
Answers to these questions will provide some insight into the cause of
the problem. Restoring from backup is the best solution but if this is
not possible dumping around the problem is the best course.

If the user is running on SCO Unix, make sure they are running 6.3E03.
We found that 1124 errors can be reported on SCO Unix, even though
the hardware was fine and dbscans came up clean. The code was
modified in 6.3E03 so we now try to read a block 10 times before
giving the 1124 error.
