GOAL:
Does the Windows 2000 Time Synchronization Service affect the Progress Database?
FIX:
Windows Time Synchronization Service (W32Time) is installed on all Server Editions of Windows 2000. This Service allows the Server machine to reference a time source. That time source can be designated as a server on the Internet. Normally a Domain Controller would reference a reliable time server on the internet, and in turn serve the domain. If the reference clock time is up to 2 minutes behind the current system, it "slews" the clock (slows it down) for up to 20 minutes or until the current system time matches the reference clock time. Windows starts the service automatically in a standard installation.
The Progress Database Server will not be harmed by the time "distortions" set in motion by this service.
