SUMMARY:
This document describes a case where the database log file shows error (8837) and how the database might behave following this error.
EXPLANATION:
Although not a common situation, in Version 9.1A or 9.1B, a database log file could register the error (8837) which denotes that a 4GL Server is unexpectedly terminated. Then suddenly no more users can connect to the database until the database is shutdown and restarted.
SOLUTION:
There is a bug report for this problem (20010329-003). It is patched in Version 9.1B and fixed in Version 9.1C.
For customers encountering this problem in versions prior to the 9.1B patch, there is a suggestion for a temporary workaround that can be used prior to upgrading the Progress version:
Increase the -Mn parameter and adjust the -Ma parameter so the broker will start more servers to attend the same number of client connections (-n) the database had.
