SUMMARY:

During the installation of Progress 8.3D on a SCO open server system from a Windows98 PC control characters may not work as expected.

EXPLANATION:

A customer was installing Progress 8.3D and encountered an error where the ctl-E function to end entering serial numbers and control codes failed. They tried several emulation modes WY-60, VT-100, VT-220 and ANSI and all failed. They had to end the ctl-E entry with a return key which cleared any information input.

After several tries it was recommended that they switch terminal emulation packages from TINYTERM to HYPERTERM. Upon switching to HYPERTERM they were able to complete the installation.

SOLUTION:

When confronted with a situation where control codes do not appear to work properly DURING INSTALLATION ONLY see if the customer can change to a different terminal emulation package (e.g. Hyperterm, CRT, or other package that TINY TERM).
