GOAL:
How to minimize or eliminate the problem of a fast growing Windows Event Viewer
Application log file.
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows
Progress 8.x
Progress 9.x
FIX:
In order to minimize or eliminate the problem of a fast growing Windows Event Viewer "Application" log file, enable (or modify) the Progress EVTLEVEL environment variable when running a Progress database on Win32 system. The EVTLEVEL values can be set using the following values: "none", "brief", "normal", and "full" (where "normal" is the default setting). It is recommended that the EVTLEVEL environment variable be set using uppercase letters, while the environment variables values are set using lowercase letters(Within the Progress documentation you might see the "values" listed with their first letter capitalized. You must specify the new value in all lowercase, otherwise it ignores that setting). On Windows NT, 2000 and XP, the EVTLEVEL environment variable can be set within the Control Panel's system icon, while on Win9x and WinMe machines it must be set within a batch file (i.e. autoexec.bat). Additionally, the Win9x * WinMe machines must be re-started after adding the EVTLEVEL environment variable to ensure the environment variable takes affect.
