SYMPTOM(s):
Shared Library error applying Progress 9.1x Patch/Service Pack on IBM AIX.
Cannot create lib/libdhjava.so: Cannot open or remove a file containing a running program.
Error occurs even after all Progress processes (Databases, AppServers, NameServers, AdminServers, Etc...) have been stopped.
FACT(s) (Environment):
IBM AIX
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family
CAUSE:
AIX caches some of its shared libraries in memory. These (cached) shared libraries may need to be manually removed from memory.
FIX:
To do this, issue the following command using the <root> login prompt:
# slibclean
This command will unload any shared libraries (that are no longer being actively used) from memory. Once the command runs to completion, apply the patch/service pack again.
