NO. The number of records per block can NOT be changed within the schema storage area (area #6). starting with version 9 Progress introduced a feature to allow the database administrator to tune the number of records per block. We support 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 records per block. The records per block is configured per storage area. Thus, it is possible to define tables with different record sizes. It is also possible to group tables with similar record sizes, as well as move these tables to amongst the databases various storage areas. The records per block within in a data storage area can be changed.

A specific condition can exist where all the data resides in the schema storage area. This condition occurs when the migration of the database is done using the proutil conv89 utility. Thus, in order to define a specific number of the records per block, additional storage areas must be defined, then the tables can be moved out of the schema storage area into the newly defined storage area(s).
