FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress 9.1C1B
Progress 9.1B
Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000

SYMPTOM(s):

java.exe uses 98% of processor on Progress 9.1C1B

PC has 9.1B and 9.1C1B installed on the same machine.

CAUSE:

If the AdminServer is set to autostart under services and the AppServer is set to autostart the PC will hang when the 9.1C1B AdminServer starts.
The task manager will show java.exe at 98%. You can't kill the process.

FIX:

Do the following:

1. reboot in Safe mode
2. modify the ubroker.properties file and turn autostart off for the AdminServer.
3. Starting the AppServer from the Progress explorer toll will produce the same result.

If you start the AdminServer from command line, not allowing it to autostart from services, the AdminServer seemed to run fine.
