Kbase 20923: SonicMQ: Certificate Management Tool Does Not Support Base64

SUMMARY:

In SonicMQ Versions earlier than 3.5, the Certificate Management Tool does not support the import of Base64 encoded certificates. When you try to import a certificate that is encoded in Base64 format with the Certificate Management Tool, you receive the following error from SonicMQ Explorer:

- Unable to import Certificate: Could not BER decode the cert. -
<OK>

SOLUTION:

The solution is to request the certificate in Binary format.

On Windows, you can use Microsoft's Certificate Management Utility to export a certificate that is in Base64 format to a new certificate in Binary format with the following steps:

1) Rename the certificate to a .cer file extension.

2) Double click the file to open it in a Windows
"Certificate" dialog box.
3) Click on the "Details" tab.

4) Choose "Copy to File..." to launch the Certificate
Management Export Wizard.

5) Follow the wizard to be able to export a new
certificate in binary format (DER encoded binary
X.509).

Once a certificate is in this format, you can successfully import it using the SonicMQ Certificate Management Tool.

NOTE: A new feature has been added to the Certificate Management Tool in SonicMQ Version 3.5 that allows the import of Base64 encoded certificates.
