FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.1A
Progress 9.1B
Oracle DataServer
SYMPTOM(s):
Personal DB server cannot support more than <5> users. (9234)
Number of users (-n) adjusted to <5>. (5055)
Error 5055 and 9234 are seen in the schema holder database log file
Cannot connect more than 5 users to the schema holder database
CAUSE:
DataServer products licenses (for ORACLE, ODBC, MSS) include Personal Database Server for these 9.1A and 9.1B. Personal DB Server allows the database to establish only 5 concurrent client connections to the database.
FIX:
For DataServer 9.1A and 9.1B, a local schema holder can either be placed on a client machine or on a mapped drive where the client machine can connect to it with the parameter -RO parameter. The –RO option allows unlimited amounts clients to connect via Read Only.
If -RO option is not used with client connections to the schema holder, user will only be able to connect 5 concurrent clients to the Database. Consequently, in that case, an upgrade to Workgroup or Enterprise DB Server license is required.
